I’m sitting at home, just listening to music, enjoying my life. I work a lot. I get up at 4:30, sometimes 5 o’clock, and I work until, I’d say, 10 at night, give or take. I say this because there are moments when I feel like I’m missing out. Then I realize I’m not. I just love being at home.
My home has become a haven, with my own art on the walls. It’s my dream home now. I worked on it for days and months and years. People might think I have money, but it has taken me a lot of time to piece this house together to the point of peace.
I texted a friend. He asked me what I was doing on a Saturday night and I was like, I’m sitting at home, I’m loving my house. And he was like, enjoy your home. It really made me realize that you can be broke, you could have every problem in the world, but you can still love your home. I don’t think a lot of us think of it this way, that our homes are truly a blessing.

I’ve Had Some Okay Places
And if you’re able to have your dream home, let me tell you, I’ve had some okay places. My mom and I lived on the Lower East Side when I grew up in the 80s, on Water Street here in New York. That translated into my life, because I always had to look for, or be in, nice places. I didn’t grow up rich. I might have grown up lower middle class, I don’t know. Sometimes I think now, if you read my article on Todrick and you see my family, we might have been a little upper class at one point or another. But anyway, that’s not important.
People think about horoscopes. I’m a Cancer, and oh, you know, Cancers love their home. That might be true to some degree. But I will say this is the first time in my life, at 54, that I have a home and a space that I don’t really want to leave.
Your Mindset Is the Most Important Part
I’m writing this so everybody knows your mindset is the most important part of moving forward. If you’re fighting addiction, if you’re fighting through a divorce, a breakup, whatever it may be, your home is your sanctuary. That is why I would curse people out and kick them out of my house. When they have bad energy, I have to kick them out, because my home is my sanctuary and I believe that energy is left behind. That’s why they say be careful who you let in your home. Whose feet cross your threshold. You have to be careful, because that energy stays. It’s taken me so long to get rid of the negative energy in my life.
I just want to share this experience with you, because you can do it too. If you are feeling doubtful, hopeful or just in the middle, it’s okay, because I’ve been in all three of those and I’m still going back and forth. But as long as I live, I will never get over having a beautiful home.

That’s the Chaos in Your Head
My house used to be all messy, and I was like, oh, I’ll get to that. I’ll move that later. I’ll get to that. And you know why? Because that’s the chaos in your head. You don’t want to get rid of it, because once you get rid of it, you’re left with yourself. And you’ve got to sit there in this beautiful home. If you’re looking around right now, reading this, like, ooh, oh my God, I need to clean, well, that might be the chaos that’s been sitting in your head. And being left with yourself is the scary part that we all, me included, don’t want to deal with.
Sometimes I sit on my little love seat in my bedroom, brand new, beautiful, that a neighbor gave me, and I sit here and say, wow. Wow. And then I say, well, what am I doing now? When the house is all clean and spotless and I’m keeping it up, I ask myself, what’s next? And that’s what many of you are scared of, I think.

Clean Up
So trust me. Clean up. Get the shit out. Do whatever. Enjoy your home. Buy art, buy vases, buy the carpet you’ve been dreaming of. Get your credit right if you don’t have it right. When you start loving yourself, it’s the inside you’ve got to work on. But once the healing is done, you’ve got to fix the outside. That means your home, the way you dress. I mean, my energy has changed so much that people are just talking to me in the street, blindly. That’s because my home is my everything. My sanctuary. And I have it the way I want it.
So take some pride in your home. It’s a blessing to have, and I believe it’s going to change your mindset.
