OVAH MAG (ovahmag.com) is published by BlackOutEndeavors LLC. This page explains what information we collect when you visit, how it’s used, who we share it with and the choices you have. If you have a question about any of it, email us at editor@ovahmag.com.

What we collect

Information you give us. When you leave a comment, send us a message through a form, sign up for our email list, submit your work or ask about advertising, we collect what you type in, such as your name, email address and message.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our server and the services we use collect basic technical information when you visit. That includes your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you view, the site that sent you here and the date and time of your visit.

Comments. When you comment, we collect the information in the comment form plus your IP address and browser details to help catch spam. If you use Gravatar, a coded version of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to show your profile picture. Gravatar’s privacy policy is at automattic.com/privacy.

Reader polls. When you vote in a poll, we record your vote and use a cookie and your IP address so each person votes once.

Cookies

Cookies are small files saved in your browser. We use them to keep the site working, to remember your choices, to count visits and to show ads. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work the same way without them.

Advertising and Google AdSense

OVAH MAG uses Google AdSense to show ads. Here is how that works:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this website and other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies lets Google and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some other vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
  • To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

We also sell ad space directly to businesses. Those ads are images and links we place on the site ourselves.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics, through Google Site Kit, to see how many people visit, which articles they read and how they found us. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information like your IP address, device and pages viewed. You can read Google’s privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy and install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Your consent choices

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland see a consent message from Google when they arrive. You can accept, decline or pick which uses you allow. You can change your choice at any time through the privacy and cookie settings link on the site. Visitors in US states with privacy laws can use the same settings to opt out of the sale or sharing of their personal information for targeted advertising.

Affiliate links

Some articles contain affiliate links, including Amazon links. As an Amazon Associate, OVAH MAG earns from qualifying purchases. When you click one of these links, Amazon or the other retailer may set its own cookies to track the sale. The price you pay doesn’t change.

Email list

If you sign up for our emails, your email address and any name you give us are stored with our email service providers, Mailchimp and Hostinger Reach, so we can send you updates. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles may include videos, music, posts or other content from sites like YouTube and Spotify. That content behaves the same as if you visited those sites directly. They may collect information about you, use cookies and track your interaction with the content, especially if you’re logged in to an account with them.

Who we share information with

We don’t sell your personal information for money. We share information only with the services that help us run the site, as described on this page. That includes our web host (Hostinger), Google (ads and analytics) and our email providers. We may also share information if the law requires it.

How long we keep information

Comments and their details are kept until the comment is removed. Messages you send us are kept as long as we need them to respond and for our records. Email list information is kept until you unsubscribe. Google keeps ad and analytics data according to its own policies.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, get a copy of it, or object to or limit how it’s used. This includes rights under the GDPR in Europe and the UK, and under state privacy laws in places like California. To make a request, email editor@ovahmag.com. We’ll answer within the time the law requires.

Children

OVAH MAG is written for adults. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this page when the site or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
