It’s that time of year in New York City. It gets chilly and you want comfort food. But if you’re like me, you’re also trying to watch your weight. So I’m trying different things, trying to figure out what to purchase and what not to purchase.
When you’re single in New York, you don’t want a refrigerator full of fresh food that goes bad. I find that when I buy a lot of fresh food, it’s difficult, because I’m just one person.
Sometimes it’s also difficult to decide what to eat, especially if you’re someone like me with a ton of projects. I write books, I have an online publication, an art business, a podcast. What else do I do? LOL. That’s a lot in itself. So I want something quick and easy.
Now, I like gumbo. I just haven’t been much of a fan when it’s too spicy or has a lot of stuff in it. I don’t eat beef, and I don’t know if people put beef in gumbo. When it comes to gumbo, I’m a novice. That’s a contradiction, because I like food and I know when something tastes good.
I’m familiar with Zatarain’s from their rice. I’ve had it, and it’s on point. Delicious, delicious, delicious.
I was getting my groceries delivered (Instacart, I think) and saw this Chicken & Sausage Gumbo in the soup category. I said, oh, let me try it. Then it sat in my refrigerator.
Today is a chilly day in New York, and I wanted to sit on my balcony with a little something something comfy. I was going to make pork chops. Then I opened the refrigerator, saw this quick and easy meal and said let me try that. I had some whole wheat Ritz crackers, so I decided, well, let me try this.
Well, let me freaking tell you. I’m in love with this.
My best friend makes some of the best chili. But I swear, when he ain’t around, this is what I’m going to be making. Three minutes and I was on my balcony licking my lips. I even did a TikTok about it. Mercy. I can’t stop thinking about it. I think I’m going to have to buy some more.
It’s the fall season and you’re looking for ideas on what to eat. Well, I just gave you one. Try it and let me know in the comments.
And to the people at Zatarain’s: if you’re looking for a sponsorship, I’m looking for a sponsorship. LOL.
