My Return to New York Fashion Week: BiCoastal

My return to being the editor of my own online magazine has been a long time coming. I can’t tell you what it feels like to be back on the scene.

This was my first fashion event back. I used to go to New York Fashion Week all the time. Unfortunately, the pandemic screwed that up. I had to give up my online magazine and I retired it, but something’s been eating at me. I needed to get back to saying who’s hot and who’s not. That’s why my tagline is: You’re not OVAH until I say you’re OVAH.

So as always, I got a special invite to the runway show of BiCoastal. Mykel C. Smith is a dear friend. But I don’t want this to be a biased review, because fashion is fashion. You like it or you don’t. Like Heidi Klum says on Project Runway, sometimes you’re in, and sometimes you’re out.

On my return, I have to say I was greeted at the door like I was famous. It was like, oh my God, hi! Mykel’s staff knew who I was. They had my group right up front.

I saw fashion that was so urban in style that I was highly impressed. Everybody was there, everybody was dressed. It was a quick show, and I didn’t get an opportunity this time around, because I didn’t want to tell anybody my magazine was coming back. But I’m happy to say I saw BiCoastal clothing, and it’s very urban chic. There were some repetitive items, but overall it was a good first comeback to New York Fashion Week. Like I said, it was a big secret that I was launching my magazine again, so I didn’t want anyone to cloud what I was writing.

If you’re into urban chic fabulousness, I definitely liked a few pieces. A few of my friends loved the white lace wedding dress. I think it was styled as a wedding dress. Not my favorite, but at dinner, that’s all my friends talked about. It was one of their favorites. Again, some things you like, some things you don’t, but overall I was very pleased with the collection. I wish there was a little more variation in style. But there was one jacket. I was just like, oh, I would sport that with some black jeans. Whoo.

But anyway, overall, great show, great presence, great environment. Mykel C. Smith always does his thing when it comes to launching products and giving runway shows. New York Fashion Week is never boring with Mykel C. Smith. I have to say that much.
