When the ladies of En Vogue whisper a sound, I stop to listen. En Vogue, in my opinion, are more than a girl group. En Vogue, phenomenal vocalist, and a group who has the look, style, the performance factor to entertain and the right attitude to keep us waiting more.
Musically, the 90s and R&B was an era and still is a period in musicology that I connect with the most. Music of the 90s was meaningful, soulful and possessed lyrics that elevated the human spirit.
For a particular generation, Destiny Child is the ultimate girl group, but I strongly disagree. En Vogue’s vocals and range are far better. I love Destiny Child, but nothing compares to En Vogue. Songs like: Whatever Will Be Will Be, Hold On, Lies, Free Your Mind and Don’t Let Go from one of my favorite movies, Set it Off will never get old.
En Vogue has sold more than 20 million records worldwide proving they have staying power.
The women from this ultimate girl group are back with new music. The group has a new look and sound. I love it. Original members of the group: Terry Ellis, Rhonda Bennett, and Cindy Herron-Braggs reunited and released a new track, “Déjà Vu.”
Honestly, when I heard their voices, I experienced my very own Déjà Vu moment. I’ve missed these woman. It’s exciting to know they’re coming back with a new CD, Electric Cafe.
Déjà Vu is a track that showcases their vocal chops and a familiar sound, but something new for die-hard fans to enjoy. It’s a track that captures the 1960’s; a sound and vibe they can only pull off. It’s an old Hollywood style they captured visually and musically in the 90’s with songs and videos like; Give Him Something He Can Feel, My Lovin (You’re Never Gonna Get It), Don’t Go and Give It Up Turn It Loose.
“Sonically, the tune is a blend of bubblegum pop and harmonic soul with a touch of hip-hop beats to keep the sound current.” (Soul Bounce)
En Vogue is currently touring. Visit their website for tour dates.
I am also in love with Rhona Bennett’s new track, Take Me There. I hope tracks like this one will be on the En Vogue CD.
