I went to sleep after listening to “Mind Ya Business” one time. Oh my God. I woke up in the middle of the night and all I could hear was mind ya business, mind ya business, mind ya business.
The song is by Sy’rai, Brandy’s daughter. It’s the opening track on her debut EP, Cold War, which came out August 28.
Her voice sounds like Brandy, but she’s breaking into her own.
I love that she’s not going to be a nepo baby who can’t sing and only releases music because of her mother. She can sing. I’m truly impressed.
When a song keeps repeating in your head and wakes you up in the middle of the night, that’s a true sign you should be downloading it. If you haven’t downloaded it, download it. If you haven’t seen the video, watch it.
I love that the video isn’t highly produced. She’s early on, and new artists have to grow with their audience. Even with her mother’s talent and resources, there’s some rawness to it. She’s got the boys, and oh yes, she has a fan. The boys are doing it in the video. Whether they spent a lot of money on it doesn’t matter. I like that it’s raw.
This is the song you should be listening to. If you haven’t, I don’t know what you’re waiting for.
You’re not OVAH until we say you’re OVAH, and we’re saying Sy’rai is OVAH.
