Why You Should be Listening to Dumblonde

Whenever a boy band or girl group breaks up it always becomes a battle to see who will out do the other. After Destiny’s Child, Danity Kane became my go-to girl group. Damages will forever be my favorite song. It’s also the group I will forever wonder how successful and far they could have gone…but that’s a thing of the past.

Strangely I recently wrote about Dawn Richard and the release of her new song, Not Above That, and oddly, shortly after that, her past group members, Aubrey O’Day and Shannon Bex release a new song and video.

Personally, it’s strange how two members quickly form a group after a violent split. If you don’t know the back story, as reported by Aubrey on The Breakfast Club, Dawn Richard physically attacked Aubrey during a recording session and was connected to other tactics to undermine the group and focus on her solo career. Soon after the announcement of the group’s spilt the remaining group members from Danity Kane formed the group, Dumblonde. Personally speaking if the story is true, I can only imagine Dawn called them in a fit of rage, dumb blondes.

Aubrey O’Day is not only a business woman, she is sly as a fox, so it’s not difficult to believe she may have taken that negative moment in her life and name calling and turned it into something profitable.

As a loyal fan of and follower of Dawn it’s been hard for me to tap in and listen to some of the tracks dumblonde has released. But that changed as soon as I heard their latest track, Remember Me. The video is visually sexual with a slice a Caribbean vibe.  It pulls you in enough that you want to know more about this group. Remember Me is a great track but I wish it was released during the summer months because I believe this would have hit the airwaves like wild fire.  I am geeked about this track and only wish it was summer so I could blast it while chilling from my Manhattan balcony.

Remember Me had me plugged in so much that I searched for more. I found more than one song that I like. I will always be a loyal and continuous follower of Dawn Richard but dumblonde has my full attention and I don’t think I will be looking away anytime soon. Their video was published on YouTube on January 15, 2016 and they’ve already received 138,006 views. The beginning of the video might remind you of Beyonce and Jay-Z’s Drunken Love.  If you can get past the similarities and listen closely, the lyrics and the vocals are impeccable.

So far this is my favorite track and I’m pleased with the visual elements! Hopefully, during the summer months mainstream radio will pick up this song as it has so much potential to be a hit! Honestly, listening to this track I am so ready for summer.

After watching a few previously released videos I believe dumblonde has been searching for their individual sound separate from Danity Kane. Remember Me is proof they’ve found their sound. If they continue producing tracks like this one, I believe they will continue to grow and shake off the days of Danity Kane and their relationship with Dawn Richard.

Surprisingly, I also fell in love with their other videos and tracks, Dreamsicle and White Lightening. You can call me a flip-flopper but Dawn Richard and dumblonde both have me listening. It’s unfortunate they couldn’t get along and produce more music under the Danity Kane name. It’s also obvious things happen for a reason because they each are producing great music and on completely different paths musically.

When it comes to music I NEVER stick with one person or group because my loyalty is with the music.  If you produce good music I have to credit where credit is due.  Dumblonde is a girl group on my radar.
