What is an “Allergy?”According to the definition, it is a hypersensitivity disorder of the immune system. This allergic reaction occurs when a person’s immune system reacts to normally harmless substances in the environment.  Allergies, such as hay fever are very common during spring season and cause symptoms such as red eye, itchy eye, runny nose, hives ,and can sometimes cause an asthma attack if one is not careful.

During this Spring Season, we need to take care of our health.  Here are some useful tips to help cure your allergy symptoms, and give the mind, body a good “Spring Cleaning.”

Eating a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables is highly recommended.  In particular, drinking Carrot Juice for its high content of beta carotene,  helps heal the mucus membranes.  Citrus Juices , contain Vitamin C with bioflavonoids are a potent immune booster. Consume more liquid by preparing a green energy drink  each morning to start the day.  Organic Honey, especially Comb Honey, contains pollen granules which helps to relieve the symptoms.  Its best to start this regiment of using the honey before the start of the spring season. Try to avoid milk and dairy  products during an allergy attack, since they encourage mucus formation in the airway and bowels.

Rosehip Tea is an excellent allergy remedy. Also, Nettle Tea helps by blocking the histamines in your body which helps to prevent an allergy attack and hay fever. Although I don’t suffer from allergies, I love drinking these herbal teas because they help with other ailments  as well, which I will discuss in another article about the benefits of drinking herbal teas. Eucalyptus oil  helps to ease nasal discomfort, and by adding also a few drops of  Chamomile oil to very cold water, and make a compress for your forehead and cover your eyes will help you when your eyes itch.  You can inhale  Eucalyptus oil and Tea Tree oil to help relieve nasal symptom.  Try putting a few drops on a handkerchief or wash cloth and take it with you during the day is also helpful. Put a few drops on your pillow at night will make for a good  and soothing night sleep.  Covering your eyes with slices of cool Cucumber and lie down and relax for a while will help with your healing during an attack.  Yoga and Meditation is also a healing source as well.  Eyebright is the best known remedy for your eyes, and highly recommended by any herbalist around.

Avoid going outside when the pollen count is high, and wear Sunglasses to protect your eyes.  Although this is a drawback to the spring season, take precaution to stay well and enjoy the great outdoors.
