Who is James Whiteside (a.k.a. JbDubs)

Do you recall the feeling you felt the first time you opened up your first box of Cracker Jacks and discovered there was a prize at the bottom of the box. That’s exactly how we felt…

Do you recall the feeling you felt the first time you opened up your first box of Cracker Jacks and discovered there was a prize at the bottom of the box. That’s exactly how we felt when we found out about this artist who is by far the sexiest man alive. Thanks to Milk from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 6 who tweeted this artists most recent video, “The Fanny Bounce,” which is the reason I learned of this rising star.

I think I had some hot flashes when I saw how good-looking JbDubs (aka James Whiteside). Oops, I meant to say captivated by his song. Anyway, that all fades when you’re more interested in a person’s mind, creativity, nerve, talent, charisma and uniqueness which is why I had to know more about James Whiteside.

I was so fascinated by the ‘The Fanny Bounce‘ video that I decided to watch all of his videos. Honestly, in a short period of time he became one of my favorites. The lyrics to his songs are clever, the beats are sickening, the video concepts are genius and let’s not forget the choreography is stellar.

After several days of listening to his music I reached out to his management company because I needed to find out more about James, a talent within the LGBT community who I believe has star power unlike some queens releasing music today. This is one talented person I believe in and I will give my personal stamp of approval.

Music is my first love and I can hear a hit from a mile away and he has several of them. JbDubs (James) not only has a ‘dirty mouth,’ he knows how to do the ‘fanny bounce’ which is why we had to interview this talented artist.  Plus, he’s good to look at.

I recently had the pleasure of catching up with this hotness to learn more about him and his endeavors:

I recently discovered you after Milk from RuPaul’s Drag Race posted a tweet of The Fanny Bounce and we wanted Kinkster Mag readers to learn a little bit about you. After browsing through your website, I noticed you have a variety of interests and talents and there are multi-faceted aspects of who you are. How would you describe yourself as an artist?

I’d describe myself like L’oreal Feria hair dye… multi-faceted shimmer.

I also noted you have the Dairy Queens on your website. Where do they fit into the picture?

The Dairy Queens are a fun and weird group of drag queens, founded by Rupaul’s Drag Race Season 6 contestant, Milk. We perform and go out in NYC. We like to harass strangers and dress in themes.

We actually did an informal poll of our readers and curious minds want to know, are you and Milk a couple (chuckle, chuckle)?

Yes, we’ve been together for over 6 years. We’re planning a major theatrical release of our sex tape. Hah!

Well, moving on. It’s obvious to me that you appreciate your background in dance because you have incorporated your level of expertise into your music videos. How do you come up with the concepts for the dance scenes in your videos?

I have notebooks galore filled with ideas and dream projects. When something interesting pops into my head, I write it down. Hopefully, my idea becomes reality!

What would you say is your passion?

Creating is my passion. What can I say, I have a god complex.

I’ve enjoyed several of your videos and one of my favorites is Dirty Mouth. What was the inspiration behind the lyrics and the concept of the video?

I feel that people are always telling me that my songs have too many cuss words in them. To let people know that I don’t care, I wrote “Dirty Mouth” which actually doesn’t have any swears in it. It’s all innuendo and double entendre. So soccer moms rejoice! You can play this filthy ass song for your babies! It’s like Mozart, play it for your kids and they’ll get more smarter! *wink*

Your songs have clever titles, what is your creative process like for developing the lyrics and titles of your songs?

I often write a song based on one word. My notebooks have pages with just one word on them. “Oink” was one of them, as well as “Leather”. Once I have a concept or a feeling, the songs write themselves.

From your catalog of songs, which is your favorite and why?

Pantywaister is my favorite. It’s f*cking hilarious! I’m really proud of the video too. That was some hard work!

As an openly gay artist where do you see yourself fitting into the marketplace with respect to music? And how do you feel about those who seem to be on a fast track to recording music as a result of being on a reality show?

People are going to make horrible music, myself included. People are going to try to make money, myself included. The difference is that I’m in charge of my art, no one else. Everything I make is my art child and no one can be blamed for its success or failure except me. And I like that.

What are some of the things you like to do here in NYC?

You can often find me at Curry Ya, a Japanese curry joint in the East Village. It’s my favorite restaurant in the city and it has some of the best comfort food around! Go there to eat your feelings!

And what do our readers have to look forward to from you in the next year or two?

I have an idea. I’m not telling you quite yet but it’s going to be bomb.

This interview was one of my most enjoyable interviews in a longtime. Although I titled, “JbDubs Has A Dirty Mouth” because of my inappropriate thoughts throughout the interview, let’s face it, James is one “FINE” ass man, sorry MILK!
