Every GAY-CA-TION Has a Story
No matter where we go a gay-ca-tion is a necessity for the gay man on the go. Whether you are traveling to Rehoboth, Silver Lake, Palm Springs, or Ft. Lauderdale, there is no place like traveling to a resort destination. Over the years the LGBT community has planted seeds at some of the hottest, talked about resort locations in the world. And if you don’t know what a gay-ca-tion is, it’s a fiesta of parties, hot boys, and doing absolutely nothing while looking good doing it.
Out of PTown, the gay mecca at the tip of Cape Cod, we recently discovered Tim-Scapes, a not-your-average souvenir shop described as a “punk version of Sesame Street.” Tim-Scapes offers your standard products including towels, cellphone covers, totes, jewelry, tees, tanks, and hoodies. What makes them worth talking about is the relatively new product line of owner and designer Tim Convery called GAY-CA-TION, which was inspired by the gay travel meccas (think Provincetown, Fire Island, and Castro).
Although our BDSM friends may think of other uses, from 2010 to 2012 when he opened his shop, Convery’s artistic works depicting local Provincetown scenes were created using duct tape! From their early stages as gift wrapping to his travel posters used in art shows, Convery’s designs have developed into wonderful graphics with type and pictograms which are now being used on apparel and accessories
The guys at Tim-Scapes were gracious enough to send us a red REHO tank (Rehoboth Beach) and we simply love it. The shirt arrived priority mail with some added decoration on the envelope; bands of duct tape in the colors of the rainbow flag!
All the GAY-CA-TION designs are fun, clever, and sophisticated. Our REHO design was screen printed on an American Apparel tank-top which we believe is a great way to deliver a quality product. Although we haven’t washed it yet, my experience with American Apparel products is that they are excellent for not shrinking and for holding the color from screen-printing. So we have no worries about its durability and longevity. Because of the artistic nature of the graphic design and quality of the shirt this is not your average souvenir.
Like any socially conscious business, Convery works with many local non-profits. By purchasing one of his Helpr tees, 15% of sales are donated to local organizations.
You may say that summer and vacation season will soon be over and you may not be able to get to your gay-ca-tion destination, but this GAY-CA-TION is available anytime.
