Herbal tea is all the rage now.  Around New York City, small tea shops are opening up.  As far back thousands of years ago in India and China, tea was considered the health and wellness for ones well being.  Tea was considered good health, happiness, and wisdom.  Drinking a cup of tea daily, enhances the many health benefits, and help with cancer, heart disease, diabetes, weight-loss, lowers cholesterol and mental alertness. Tea is a great alternative to drinking coffee according to the American Dietetic Association because tea has less caffeine.  The British have cornered the market on Afternoon tea with Scone. This is the perfect drink of choice in the afternoon when the Brits sit down and relax with a nice cup of English tea.  When choosing tea, make sure you read the label because some tea has artificial flavorings and full of pesticide which defeats the purpose of healing the body.  Make sure you drink organic herbal tea.

Some teas with health benefit for the body include:

Peppermint tea.  I love drinking this tea when I have a headache and cramping. It helps to reduce a fever, congestion of a cold or bronchitis and fever.  It also relieves nausea without vomiting. Another benefit of mint tea is the breaking down of fat in the digestive system.

Ginger tea.  Another favorite of mine helps to prevent motion sickness. It helps to warm the body on those cold mornings and night when you suffer chills from a cold day or night.  It also helps to break down a fever by inducing sweat and aid you when you have a sore throat. I sometimes suck on ginger lozenges.

Chamomile tea.   This tea is steeped longer than other herbal teas in order to get all the medicinal properties.  I drink this tea before I retire to bed at night.  This tea helps to relax and induce sleep.  It also helps with the prevention of diabetes, like loss of vision, nerve and kidney damage.  If you suffer from anxiety, it helps to relax you.  It aids you if you have indigestion and nausea, and help to relieve cough and sore throat.  Please be aware that if you take blood thinners as well as those who suffer from ragweed allergens, you would have an allergic reaction to your body if you drink this tea.

Lemongrass tea.  This tea is loaded with anti-inflammatory and aids in digestion.  An important benefit of this tea is the treatment of high blood pressure by drinking a daily cup.  It helps to improve your circulation and calm nervous disorders and anxiety.

Lemon Balm tea.  This tea helps to fight viruses, cold sores, and shingles. It also helps to calm your nervousness and aid in sleep.  Also, it aids the digestive if you suffer from heartburn.

Cinnamon tea.  While vacationing in Cairo Egypt, I drank a lot of Cinnamon tea.  It is anti-bacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal.  It is one of the best all-around tea to help improve circulation and blood flow.  It eases stomach discomfort, bloating, gas and indigestion. During the cold months, it warms the body if you suffer from chills, sore throat and reduce the cold symptoms.  I add almond milk and if you need to sweeten the tea, you can add honey. One of the best tea,  because you add the cinnamon stick or powder to hot water and steep it in a teapot.

Rosehips tea.  The tea provides minerals such as calcium,  iron, natural sodium, magnesium, manganese, potassium, phosphorus, and zinc.  It helps to increase energy when you are feeling run down.  Nettle tea also a good source of iron, helps in building your bones.

Green tea.  Protects the body from aging.  It is high in anti-oxidant, burns fat, reduces the risk of Stroke, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease.  It also improves your cholesterol level.

Black tea.    Protects the lungs caused by exposure to cigarette smoke and also reduce the risk of a stroke.

White tea.   This tea has the most potent anti-cancer properties.

Oolong tea.  It lowers bad cholesterol levels and aid in weight loss.

Pu-erh tea.   Aids in weight loss and reduce LDL cholesterol.

Relax and have a cup of organic herbal tea.  Steep your tea in a teapot for ten minutes or cover your cup with a lid when the tea is steeping to lock in all the healing properties. When you are sick, using the tea as hot steam for your face is an added bonus.
