Have you heard about floating? Floating is a way to take time out of a busy day to pause from the hectic world around us, and enter into a state of deep mental and physical relaxation. We need to recharge and rest our minds so that we can face the world with a new perspective full of energy. In 1954 John C. Lilly, a medical practitioner and neuropsychiatrist first used floating to test sensory deprivation. Floatation-REST(restricted environmental stimulation technique) is backed by research and it has immense potential for growth and healing.
During a float experience, you take a deep rest, by floating into a quiet warm spa and float tank. You lay back on water, where it is filled with Epsom salt, about 10″ deep for 60 to 90 minutes. The water is dense, which allows you to float right on top. You are fully supported in the water, which will not require you to expend any physical energy. The water is maintained at a temperature of 94.4 degrees and tapers off. Its best to turn off the lights, so your eyes can rest in the darkness which is comforting. It is the same as if you choose to close them. Complete silence and quiet, as well as soundproofing throughout the float spa is part of the experience. Floating is a 90 minute session in an amazing relaxing environment. Gentle music signals the end of the session.
After a floating savasana, your mind is refreshed, you feel at peace, relaxed, happy and calm. The floating experience can last for hours to days, and have the potential to last much longer. The world around you may appear vibrant, and you appreciate the richness around you. Floating helps you to relax your stress. Dealing with problems at home, work, we get so caught up that we forget the beauty that surrounds us. The shift after leaving the float tank, optimism is restored. Physical benefit from the float tank, also allows the body to reset and realign itself. The neck, back and joints nicely pop during a float experience. Blood pressure reduces as the body moves away from physical tensions related to the “fight or flight” instinct, and enters its natural state of rest.
Research has been done to demonstrate floating reduces pain caused by acute injury, physical exertion or chronic conditions. The body absorbs magnesium from the Epson salt infused water, which helps the flushing of lactic acid from tired muscles. A great night sleep is had after a float experience and you feel renewed.
Some have experience an enhanced awareness of spiritual connection, increased knowledge of a higher self, bond with others, and a related growth experience. You become one with self after a floating experience, as a unique way to delve into areas of existence and well-being.
