Why the songtress Lachi Has OVAH! under her musical spell

“I’ll never forget being at work, humming at my desk, and my co-worker saying, ‘You know how someone can't sing, and everyone laughs, warning them not to quit their day job? Yeah, you're the opposite.’”

When you’re down and out who do you turn to for inspiration? Even though it’s the beginning of 2019 I believe that many of us need inspiration more than ever especially with the current Administration.

It’s not always easy to find the best inspiration nowadays because everyone has something aspiring to say. It’s the true stories of inspiration that encourage us and motivate us to achieve greatness.

I’ve always said music is a universal language that touches the souls, minds, and bodies of millions around the world.

Many of you would say, Jennifer Lopez, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and even Beyonce inspire you through their music. Not discrediting their talents, successes, or messages of inspiration they sing and spread into the world, but I believe that there are far more inspirational stories that should be shared and told.

Have you heard of Lachi? For those of you who haven’t, you’re in for a special treat because this woman can sing. That’s half the story. Not that it matters she is legally blind, and she’s not letting her disability hold her back from achieving her dreams. I want each and every one of you to know her name.

Her inspirational story has piqued my interest so I had to dive in and learn more of this talented woman who is about to conquer the airwaves with her latest track, “What I Want (Dat Body)” produced by Danish EDM producer Julian Javan.

The release of this track is impeccable because this sexy Club track is inspired by the wave of fierce women who are redefining today’s political scene.

“Today’s women are more than pretty little dolls, we are bosses and power players taking charge of this world,” declares Lachi. She says when it came to writing her latest song, she imagined all 131 — the number of women now serving in both chambers of the 116th Congress — walking into a club and picking out their choice of men. “I’m the type who can walk up to that cute guy at the bar and buy him a drink,” Lachi explains.

I had to dig deeper because I needed to know more about this phenomenal songstress. It’s almost like she came out of nowhere.

Lachi was born legally blind into a first-generation Nigerian immigrant family. “We moved around a lot to make ends meet. I grew up in the blackest parts of Philly, the whitest parts of Upstate New York, and I southern-belled it in North Carolina. No matter where we were, I was always so different from everyone else. It was tough to make friends.”

She refused to let her disability define her. “I have always hated the ‘wow, she’s blind AND can do things!’-type BS. I was raised to believe that no one was going to be throwing me any pity parties.”

Today, Lachi is an international pop, EDM and soul artist, as well as a songwriter and producer. She has worked on numerous projects including the single, “Rude,” with rapper Snoop Dogg and “Far” with trance producer Markus Schulz, featured on his We Are The Light album.

She writes songs from the perspective of a smart, empowered female, incorporating thought-provoking, emotive themes (as in her “Living A Lie” single with Styles P) to kitschy compositions (as in her track “Allegedly”).

“What I Want (Dat Body)” is Lachi’s second collaboration with Julian Javan. Their previous single, “Namaste,” released in spring 2018, was a passionate, high energy, EDM track that blended Pop with hints of Mombathon.

“The biggest obstacle on my musical journey has been me,” she reflects. “I’ll never forget being at work, humming at my desk, and my co-worker said, ‘You know how someone can’t sing, and everyone laughs, warning them not to quit their day job? Yeah, you’re the opposite.’”

This woman is unbelievable and someone who I can truly relate to because when she told us the biggest obstacle on her musical journey was herself, I instantly connected with that premise because we are our own saboteurs in life.

Lachi’s story and ability to overcome her disability and follow her dream is an example that we all can achieve greatness if we put our mind to it! ]

It’s a damn shame, I was so distracted that I forgot to mention, the song is off the charts hot. I LOVE it and I think you will too! Haha!
