Having been on vacation for weeks has left me plenty of time to listen to music. This summer (thus far) has been excellent regarding music. As many of my readers know, I love music; it’s one of my passions. Honesty, in my youth, music was my go-to when I felt lost or hopeless about my future or the path to take to achieve great things in life.
It’s funny, music is one of those things that when I look back it’s the one thing that saved my life. There have been many nights that I’ve taken my problems to the dance floor and work it out with great music. Luckily being connected to a long list of artists, DJs, and music industry execs who sent me advance copies of music to listen to has its advantages, and I am always surprised when the music is precisely what I need to escape and enjoy my vacation.
From pre-released to newly released music, I’ve been jamming to a unique set of tracks and want to share five which are top of the list.
1. “Special Love” – Guy Scheiman Feat Inaya Day
Since we interviewed Scheiman a couple of years ago, he has been a friend of Kinkster MAG. Ever since then, we’ve kept in touch regarding his musical endeavors.
Scheiman’s latest “Special Love” feat. Inaya Day is the first track that helped me kick off Pride, my birthday, and my vacation.
If you’re familiar with Guy Schiman, then you will not be disappointed. It’s a lively dance track masterfully paired with the vocals from a Kinkster MAG favorite, Inaya Day. Initially, I liked the song, another happy song with a great message. However, after I had time to relax on vacation and listen to it carefully, I loved it even more.
We are living in a loveless world right now so it’s vital for us to remember that love is the answer. One DJ who understands how to deliver the beats and cleverly encourage and inspire us through music is Guy Scheinman! “Special Love” is a very summery kinda song, hands in the air kinda song, and it’s one of my summer jams.
2. “Size Queen” – Adam Joseph
Joseph has produced many of the club hits we all have come to love. From MISS VANJIE, Cookies, and one of my all-time favorites,”Reclaiming My Time” which turned a critical statement by Congresswoman Maxine Waters into an epic dance track.
His latest endeavor is one I love because he steps behind the microphone for his new single “Size Queen (VPL Mix)” and with the title “Size Queen” the song hints at something more than it’s lyrics reveal at first listen.
Initially, I was taken by the title of the track. I was immediately in love with the song from the first listen of the lyrics, but what I like most are the instrumentals which give this a rich club lounge sound. Each time l listen to the song, all I can do is imagine the song in the background while a group of my friends at happy hour discuss our weekend sexcapades.
I love the track, but it’s the background story that makes it even more of an interesting song. Joseph said, “This song went through many different versions before I landed on the VPL Mix. The first producers, who I had worked with in the past, were very excited about the song but then pulled out of the project after realizing the queer subject matter of the lyrics. I then showed the song to a few queer producers, and one agreed to work on it but insisted that we would have to change the title”. Finally, one of Joseph’s longtime collaborators, European producer DJ Inox, agreed to produce the original version and a club version that would eventually become the “VPL Mix.”
3. “Only Love” – Mary J. Blige
First off, did you even know Mary J. Blige released a new track? If you’re like me, you’re like, hell no! Well, lucky for me, a friend at Billboard, sent me a copy and let me tell you, I am in love.
I hate to be the one to say it, but Mary produces the best tracks when she is heartbroken. She can empower you through her songs and there’s something painfully magical in her voice when she sings from the hurt.
As she posted on social media, “I’ve been in the studio working on new music and was excited to share a little bit with you all. I had a year of so many ups and downs and have come out the other side with a renewed spirit and a fresh perspective. I’m entering my next chapter with an open mind and heart. ONLY LOVE is where I am right now and I couldn’t keep it to myself any longer!!! #sisterlove #onlylove”
“Only Love” will have you feeling nostalgic, it’s a classic sound from the 70s, and I love this song. She sampled the beat from the song “Dr. Love” by the group First Choice!
4. “Get It” – Black Eyed Peas
Yes, you read correctly, they are back. During the political climate we’re living it, the world of music would not be the same without The Black Eyed Peas. “Get It” has a familiar sound, but also might remind you of Childish Gambino’s “This is America.”’ The overall message and song, “let’s not normalize hate” is a powerful message, especially today.
5. “Y3AH (Sico Vox & Beatz VS Luis Vazquez – Guy DeGiacinto Mashup)” – Guy DeGiacinto
I saved the best for last. I was given a sneak peek to this mix before it hit Soundcloud. OMG, this Guy DeGiacinto, a Kinkster DJ and someone who never disappoints, the mix is sickening. Personally, I like Usher, although I’m not a die-hard fan his songs are great and hard to remix. Over the years, I have heard tons of Usher remixes, but this is the first one, I’ve fallen in love with, and honestly, I can’t stop playing.
When they refer to a mix as a club banger Guy’s mix should appear as the definition in the dictionary. I have a handful of favorite remixes by several DJs, but this one makes my Top 3 all-time favorites.
